History of Gwalior

History of G R Medical College Gwalior

Gajra Raja Medical College (GRMC) is a renowned medical institution located in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, India. It is one of the oldest and prestigious medical colleges in the state and has played a significant role in medical education and healthcare in the region.The establishment of Gajra Raja Medical College can be traced back to the late 19th century. During the British colonial era, Gwalior was an important princely state, and there was a growing need for medical education and healthcare facilities in the region. To address this need, the Maharaja of Gwalior, Madho Rao Scindia, decided to establish a medical college in the city.In 1946, Gajra Raja Medical College was founded by Maharaja Jiwajirao Scindia and was named after his mother, Maharani Gajra Raje Scindia. The college started functioning in a temporary location, and its first batch of students was admitted in the same year. Later, in 1955, the college was shifted to its current location, which is a spacious campus in Lashkar area of Gwalior.
